Reenactment Participation
Reenactments are events hosted across the country that try to recreate an authentic historical experience, usually focusing on one particular conflict such as the Civil War or the American Revolutionary War. Our classes are designed to prepare students to participate as a soldier in these events, to act as a unit along with classmates and other certificate-holding graduates
Traditionally, participation in a reenactment as a soldier costs $1500-$2000 for the minimum required replica uniform, and we think that's a huge problem! We provide all of the replica equipment and uniform pieces needed to participate, including replica clothing, accoutrements, firearms, blades, historical tents and furniture, and cooking equipment, as well as blank-firing supplies and other pieces!
Most of our classes are specifically scheduled to correspond with an upcoming local reenactment event, so that participation in that event acts as a way to show off and celebrate what we have learned in that class in the weeks previous. Completing the class will also give you a certificate to allow you to join us at other events without having to retake the class. You are always welcome to retake the class, though!
(For example, if you complete a class focusing on training for a Civil War Union Western Sharpshooters impression, not only can you participate in the event that is associated with that class, but using the certificate, you can participate in future events where we will represent Civil War Union Western Sharpshooters as well without having to take the class.)
During the classes and the reenactments, the Military History Academy will provide all of the required historical equipment, musket blanks, caps/flints, etc., that are needed to participate, though the student may want/need to bring some supplies from home depending on how they want to participate. Details on that will be provided before the event.
We work very hard to make sure that anyone can take our classes and enjoy their participation in the reenactment events!
